Finally, the long wait is over for fans of the Bronco. After waiting for what seems like forever, the new 2021 Ford Bronco is finally here and we can barely contain our excitement.

Ever since Ford dropped the news that they were going to release a new model from their famed Bronco line, we and other fans have eagerly been waiting to see what kind of goodies it’ll pack. The last Ford Bronco was announced in 1996 so you could say our curiosity has been building up for more than a decade.

After catching a glimpse of the new 2021 Ford Bronco, we can confidently say that our wait was well worth it. We were not disappointed at all.

The new Bronco comes in both two – and four-door versions, with cool retro styling, a host of innovative features and impressive off-roading capabilities. Even better, you can remove the doors and soft or hard tops to really enjoy yourself when the weather is good. What more could we ask for? It seems that finally, the Jeep Wrangler had met its match!

2021 Ford Bronco Upgrades

Since we heard that the new Bronco was on its way, we’ve had lots of clients come to the Dixie 4 Wheel Drive auto shop in Moab asking about its off-roading capabilities. What features did it have and could these be easily modified and upgraded for those who love custom built trucks?

We’ve compiled a list of 10 of the new Ford Bronco’s off-road upgrades below:

1. Two 4x4 systems

This new Ford model comes with a 4WD system that has a 2-speed electronic transfer case controlled with a handy dial. In addition to that, it also comes with an upgraded 2-speed unit with a shorter low range and an auto mode that allows you to comfortably switch between 2H and 4H. In some select Broncos i.e. those that come with the seven-speed manual and short rear axles, the second two-speed unit can be paired with the upgraded 4x4 system.

2. An independent front suspension coupled with a solid rear axle.

To help you comfortably take on rugged terrain, the new Broncos come equipped with an independent front suspension. They also have a solid rear axle with coil-over shocks and electronic locking differentials. Some models also have a High-Performance Off-Road Stability Suspension as part of what is called the Sasquatch package, which we’ll look at next.

3. The Sasquatch Package.

While it definitely is an odd name, the Sasquatch package contains all the off-road goodies you’d want for your SUV. It’s available as a standard feature on the limited First Edition Models and the Wildtrak. Those who purchase other Bronco models can choose whether or not to add this feature. The package contains an electronic transfer case, electronic locking front, and rear axles, 35” mud terrain tires sitting atop 7-inch wheels giving the machine a 1.2-inch lift, longer fender flares, and heavy-duty Bilstein shocks.

4. A hydraulic anti-roll bar disconnect.

We’ve encountered standard electronic disconnect anti-roll bars before on the Rubicon and some older Bronco models. The new Bronco brings them back, in hydraulic versions. The hydraulic anti-roll bar enables the front bar to detach when navigating tough terrain, making it easier for you to make those tight turns and maneuvers.

5. G.O.A.T driving modes.

Nicknamed GOATs (Go Over Any Type of Terrain) the driving models on the Bronco live up to their name. Using the Knob on the center console, you can easily toggle through Eco, Slippery, Sand, and a range of other driving modes. This ensures that your rig can comfortably take you on any terrain you can think of.

6. Trail Maps and a Trail Toolbox to help you navigate.

Speaking of navigation, another handy off-roading feature on the new Bronco is the Trail Map System. This helps you find the best terrain to ride by displaying a map network on the inbuilt dashboard screen. These maps are available offline and can be updated by other Bronco users.

Additionally, these SUVs have a Trail Toolbox feature to assist the driver. It includes trail control for slow trial driving as well as trail turn assist to help when rock crawling.

7. Larger meatier tires.

Any off-roader will tell you how important traction is when taking on rugged terrain. To help in this area, the new Broncos come with larger tires. The base models have all-season tires while other models get capable mud-terrains or all-terrains ranging from 33” to 35”.

8. Upgraded armor for off-road protection.

When out there rock crawling or driving through the bush, the last thing you want is to shred your ride’s undercarriage. To help prevent this, the latest Bronco models are fitted with a standard ‘bash plate’ at the front and underbody protection to keep your transmission, fuel tank, engine, and transfer case safe.

9. A classy, rugged interior.

What use would a gorgeous exterior be without a matching interior? With washable floor mats, mounts on the dashboard for cameras and phones, a push to start button, and waterproof surfaces among others, it’s easy to see that the interior wasn’t designed as an afterthought.

10. Trail Sights on the hood.

When negotiating obstacles on the trail, it helps to know where your vehicle is in relation to the obstacle. To make this easy, the Bronco comes with two Trail Sights attached to either corner of the hood. These also double up as tie-downs where you can attach ORV flags, high-lift jack, or even windshield cables. However, as tie-downs, they are limited to 150 pounds so take care not to attach anything heavier than that.

From the off-roading upgrades we’ve been able to find, it’s clear that the 2021 Ford Bronco packs a lot of power under the hood and is serious about being the perfect SUV partner to take off-road.
